Hillcrest, which celebrated its hundredth birthday a couple of years ago, has superb access to 2 major highways [M3 and M13] connecting it to Durban [30 km’s away] and the coastal areas and Pietermaritzburg [60km’s] and the midlands within the hour.

Being situated 650 m above sea level and just 30 km’s from the Indian Ocean ensures one of the healthiest climates in the Southern Hemisphere. Average summer temperatures are in the mid 20’s [centigrade] and winter maybe be cool overnight but sunny, warm and dry by day. Summer is the rainy season which at times can be heavy. Average rainfall is around 870mm per annum.

The Drakensberg mountains can be reached within hours as can the plentiful game and nature reserves in the Natal Province. The Durban beaches, famous for their surfing, are 20 minutes away  as are many other tourist attractions Hotels and "Bed and Breakfast" establishments are plentiful giving the tourist a good selection to suit every wallet! Not too much farther north along the coastline you will find KwaZulu-Natal’s "Dolphin Coast"; a 40kmstretch of beaches and various resorts. Of course it obtained its name from the frequent sightings of dolphin in the area. Weekend and evening markets as well as the superstores provide enormous opportunities for souvenirs for the tourist and household goods in every shape or form for the local inhabitants.

All areas have been in demand as far as property goes but a haven't had such a high exposure, yet, as has Cape Town and is therefore considerably lower priced and offers possible better investment opportunities. Commercial and Industrial premises are to be found in the Upper and Lower Highway areas with the latter being more prominent. Medical facilities are to be found in Hillcrest and Waterfall with the Crompton Hospital not far away in Pinetown [12 km’s]
