In all areas there are a number of excellent schools – government run as well as private. Shopping centres are plentiful but on a smaller scale; if a larger selection is required then the Sanlam Centre in Pinetown, just 12kms away and the Pavilion in Westville, a further 4 km’s nearer to Durban where an even bigger choice is to be had.
Hillcrest can boast 4 centres; Richdens; The Colony; Hillcrest shopping centre and The Heritage market.

The former with their supermarkets, greengrocers, bottle stores and various clothing shops attract the local fraternity whilst the Heritage is more devoted to the tourist or sightseer with the arts and craft type of business.

With something like a fifth of the 5/6000 population being in the retired category it would come as no surprise that the area [with Waterfall] boasts 3 Villages for the elderly.

Security being the demanding factor, many "Town House Complexes" are to be found in all areas.
