 About Gillitts, Emberton, Dovehouse and Surrounding Areas

Gillitts is to be found south of Hillcrest and west of Kloof and compliments both towns in many ways. The M13 highway splits it into 2 sections with the northerly areas [Emberton & Dovehouse] being very much younger with vacant land still available and still being improved. The older section [Clifton & Winston Park] is to the south of the highway where the town offices and small shopping centre are situated.

Emberton and Dovehouse cover a very pretty area with rolling hills and small gorges with streams running through. Property here ranges from the small 3 bedroom cottagey home at R250,000 to much larger and older homes at the R500,000+ level. Close by is the new Augusta Estate where land can still be purchased at about R125,000 for a 600 s.m.plot. Homes here also vary vastly in price and size depending too on whether bought as freehold or sectional title. It has a number of sporting facilities including golf and tennis.

In Clifton and Winston Park can be found many a characterful older home with pine or strip flooring; sash windows and farmhouse kitchens whilst the neighbour might be the most modern of constructions! In recent years Winston Park has been very much in demand with prices of R1 million not unusual whilst a much smaller, older home needing some renovation can be found for as low as R250,000. Clifton, which has its own superb properties, old and new, has quite a predominance of Sectional Title Town House complexes. The sizes of these vary as do the size of the home itself and there is generally a style or theme for each of them. Prices range from R200,000 to approximately R500,000.

In more recent times complexes have also mushroomed on the other side of the highway close to the old Gillitts railway station. These range, again, in style and size, as do the complexes themselves; prices ranging from R350,000 to R700,000.
